Crewkerne Lions Club

The people of Crewkerne and surrounding area generously support the fund raising projects carried out by the club. We very often get asked " But where does the money go?..."

Well the answer is the cost of running the club comes from our membership subscriptions the rest of the money raised can therefore go directly to the projects that we are supporting at that time.

Over the past few years Crewkerne Lions have donated to the following organisations

Wheelchairs For Frenchay Hospital

When Lion Lesley Chudleywas recovering in Frenchay hospital and  and was getting to the point where she was able to go out, she discovered that ward 2 did not have any wheelchairs of thier own and had to go and borrow them from other wards. Les asked the Lions if they would purchase a chair for the ward to ease the problem. Crewkerne Lions agreed and purchased two chairs for the ward and presented them on the last night of Lesley's stay.

Children's Hospice Southwest precious lives appeal :- Over £5000

This project aims to fund a third Children's hospice in the South West of England. The new hospice will be in Cornwall and will compliment the existing two units in Somerset & Devon. Even with the 3rd hospice it is estimated that hospice care for children in South West England will still be considerably short of the requirement. We are about to add to this total buy £2500 from our 2009 Kubota run proceeds. This year the proceeds from our Wild West night & fun day will be donated to this worthy cause.

Alzheimer's Society

The club has donated many hundreds of pounds to this very worthwhile charity. We have an ongoing raffle of teddy bears which you will see at various events around the area being run by Lions Richard & Heather Growcott

Lions International Australian Fire Disaster

When the terrible bush fires struck parts of Australia in 2009 among the many killed were 20 members of Lions clubs. As part of the disaster relief  fund Crewkerne Lions collected in Faulkland Square  and raised over £500 in one weekend.
